Be the Star that you are!

“Someday I’ll wish upon a star,
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney top that’s where you’ll find me
Oh, Somewhere over the rainbow way up high
And the dream that you dare to, why, oh why can’t I?

I don’t know why, but Autum makes me nostalgic. It makes me look at the year gone by, holidays taken as kids, the excietment of impending shopping and the unopened gifts. Its a season of HOPE…and how I love this word – in fact I think I am in love with hope.

In Tarot, the Star is always trotted out as one of the most beautiful cards. Then why, when I see it, doesn’t it make me happy? It could be that the Star is cautioning me that though I will be happy – it’ll be a while and this somehow dampens my happiness. We all need instant gratification. It’s usually super to see the Star coming up for what a romantic partner thinks of you, but that too kind of irritates because inevitably the ones who always think the Star of you are the ones who also keep you at a distance. Like you’re up on some lofty pedestal or something.

There was a time, when I knew very closely the cost of depression. Upon my return, I was not happy-go-lucky but I did acquire hope. In the depths, I could not see what there was to look towards. In my ascent, I had hope that things would get better, I would get better and I did.

The Star is that time, when you have integrated something rather dark, tragic, painful and costly into your being your skin still raw and wet from rebirth, your psyche still wounded and painful to the touch, you spend some time tending to that which you could not when you were “away.”
The Star card shows a naked woman kneeling at the edge of a small pool. The woman holds two containers of water. She pours the water out to nourish the earth and to continue the cycle of fertility, represented by the lush greenery around her. The other container pours the water onto dry land in five rivulets, representing the five senses.

The woman has one foot on the ground, representing her practical abilities and good common sense, and the other foot in the water, representing her intuition and inner resources, and listening to her inner voice. Behind her, shines one large star and seven smaller stars, representing your chakras. This represents a need to open your chakras and cleanse your aura. Notice all the stars have eight points.

The Star is associated with the number 17, which equals 8 (1+7=8). Eight is Strength, the quality needed to accept your faults and love yourself in spite of them. The bird in the tree in the background is the sacred ibis of thought, roosting in the tree of the mind.

The astrological sign of the Star is Aquarius. As it follows the Tower, the Star indicates that you have endured life’s challenges and have been through a difficult time but you are now open to healing and transformation. Its a time to let go off painful memories. Its a time to forgive and forget so that you can embrace new opportunities. And lastly, it is a time of reclamation, without which we could not move on.

You may have to cut ties with people who, as you found out when you were gone, didn’t really give a crap about you. You start the process of pruning the overgrowth.

This isn’t an easy time, but it is a hopeful time. It’s a time when others may expect you to be back to “your old self.” How do you tell them your old self has died, never to return?

Besides, it will be a while before the process of reclamation is done, before you get where you’re appointed to go. But it will never be as it was before. You are changed. Your direction will likely change.

This is a card of work and healing and growth and yes, rebirth.
