Pluto, the planet of transformation and rebirth, will be transiting through Aquarius from 2023 to 2044. When it enters Aquarius on March 23rd, Pluto will carry themes of information technology, data, science, and communal potency. Pluto in astrology represents finality and fatality, and, as a ruler of Scorpio, Pluto deals with the karmic mechanics of death and rebirth.
Aquarius on the other hand is ruled by both Saturn (structure), and Uranus (change), Aquarius takes a big-picture view, contemplating the ethics, ideals, and systems required to ensure fairness for all. This transit will bring significant changes to the way we think about and approach technology, innovation, and progress. During this time, we can expect to see major advancements in technology and science, as well as a growing interest in alternative and progressive ways of living.
While Pluto roosts in Aquarius, several planets will move through Aries, the sign of war and aggression: Jupiter (2023); Saturn (2025–2028); and Neptune (2025–2039). While, Aries celebrates individuality, self-assertion, and the desire to be first, to be the leader. And of course, the desire to be unique. Aquarius holds court over the theoretical, unforgiving in its one-size-fits-all ideals. It is also associated with groups, collective consciousness, and humanitarianism. Aquarians (sun/moon and rising) are independent and eccentric, with a strong desire for freedom. They tend to be more detached and objective, with a focus on the bigger picture and the greater good. They tend to have strong social consciousness and desire for change.This could manifest in the form of new social movements, or a push towards decentralisation and community driven decision making.
At this moment, phones and social media are, by definition, tools of surveillance, advertising, and influence. As Pluto moves through Aquarius, our society will have to confront the literal plutocrats who own our streams of information. Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos and possible Twitter owner Elon Musk — and wrest control of our lives from Mark Zuckerberg. That’s just part of it. There will be replacement social media.
On a personal level, this transit may encourage us to question our beliefs and values, and to let go of outdated ideas and ways of being. It can be a time of deep personal transformation and growth, as we break free from limiting patterns and embrace new ways of thinking.
I personally think, that while Pluto transits can bring powerful changes and growth, they can also be challenging and uncomfortable. This transit may bring up feelings of powerlessness and vulnerability, as old structures and ways of being are dismantled. It’s important to stay open and flexible during this time, and to trust in the process of growth and transformation.
That said, it is possible that AI may continue to develop down a path reminiscent of the long-unheeded warnings of dystopian science fiction. Alternatively, we may experience a crisis in lack of tolerance for different kinds of people. After all, Aquarius is the sign of humanitarianism.
Pluto will be in Aquarius for 20 years.
Overall, Pluto’s transit through Aquarius will be a time of significant change and progress, both on a societal and personal level. It’s a time to embrace new ways of thinking and being, and to trust in the process of growth and transformation.
