Patience, Wait…I hear myself say this a lot…for some of us it rules our lives, makes us immobile…frustrates, angers and tears us apart. Times when we want answers but the wisdom is in the painful wait.
The Hanged Man represents not only a particular moment of being suspended, stopped, or made a “martyr” for some greater good, but it also depicts the proper response to this time of forced suspension–not agony or self-pity, but appreciation. The Hanged Man seems to be enjoying or at least appreciating getting outside of the normal flow of things. He seems to see beyond our everyday lives and concerns. This card means that old patterns and ways of seeing your life and world need to stop, and sometimes the only way to do that is to stop, turn your world upside, and really see how this complete turnaround feels by meditating on it and fully experiencing it, despite the pain or discomfort.
Tarot is a master of dilemmas. The choices it represents, the different routes that it throws up and the environment and people who would be there in the journey with you. The delicate balance of sorting through the angles and what if’s and reflecting possible outcomes. It’s what makes it such a great tool for brainstorming and decision making. So when the advice tarot gives us is to wait …it can be extremely frustrating. You want to push, pull, get answers – get things going because you’ve been been waiting…and it may seem forever…going round in circles of the problem. You hope tarot will show you the way out and even tarot asks you to wait!
What at all times we must keep at the back of our minds, tarot speaks for the highest good. Not necessarily what I want or you want… There are several cards in the deck that indicate waiting. The Hanged Man is probably the most obvious as he’s got no other option.
Ace of Wands: Reversed :
When I pull this card with the Hanged man I am certain that wisdom lies in waiting. Despite having brilliant ideas, which you may think will work – they start to fall apart. At times like such, it almost feels like a “tarot retrograde” if there’s one. …for this is time to wait..go back, check on the plans, re – tweak them, prioritize what is of most importance.
Take this “wait” period as a blessing in disguise…use it to play the devils advocate or just keep the faith and know that things are in motion.
